13) What will Tree peekers surprise us with today? That’s what they seem to be so good at…doing the thing no one could have guessed and usually from behind whichever way you think they will come! In the study area they would usually come into that hood once or twice a week usually garbage night and this particular place has no streetlights as it was one of the very first subdivision tract homes built after WW2 and I guess back then deveoplers didn’t like street lights cause there are none! It’s has a creek running through the middle of it and surrounded by open space that is truly no man’s land! It has a culvert that goes under the high way and a wild strip that connects to wilderness eventually. This strip of land has Eastbay regional parks and protected watershed, ranchlands, golf courses etc. scattered along on either side its cities and towns with overgrown waterways like fingers reaching into the urban areas eventually emptying into the bay. On a little stop along the shores across from where they are in Marin I find to my surprise in a park along the shores two tree breaks one at one end of the park and at the far end and this is really not connected to anywhere wild. It’s cut off on all sides by freeways and new expensive condos by the water etc. just a little greenery surrounded by industry and commerce. Then while I was up late about 3am I hear a long wailing howl of the Way Too long for it to be a human and loud! I go outside and listening I hear the return howl from the hills a few miles away. I decide to investigate wow could there be squatch around the edge of the bay on this side? It is definitely a squatch I heard… and I’ve heard them a few more times as well since then and I checked in with someone who’s up late too lives close to where the howl originated and he said he’d heard it too. Along with the whistlers near town it leads to the discovery that they use the shores of SF Bay, it’s creeks, private property that’s fenced off & posted, train tracks & yards, abandoned warehouses and or green houses in both woods & industrial areas, Any ‘OFF LIMITS’ “No Trespassing” and or “NO People go in there” as both a camp or route. 13) What will Tree peekers surprise us with today?
